Qualification pathways
Choose one of our three qualification pathways to become an ACIA or FCIA.
Pathway 1
Start with a CIA-accredited university degree.
This pathway is designed for students and graduates of a CIA-accredited degree program who use the CIA education system exclusively and wish to achieve the ACIA and FCIA designations. These goals are pursued using CIA online education and open-book examinations.
Pathway 2
Use associate-level qualifications from another actuarial organization.
This pathway is intended for individuals who have earned a full or partial associate designation from another recognized actuarial organization and wish to pursue the ACIA and FCIA designations through CIA education and exams. Pathway 2 participants do not intend to use examinations from or become a fellow of another actuarial organization. This pathway also applies to participants from actuarial organizations whose education systems are not recognized by the CIA.

Pathway 3
Use a recognized fellow-level designation.
This pathway is open to individuals who already hold a fellow designation from a recognized actuarial organization. There are two routes available: experience and fast track.
