Pathway 1 is designed for students and graduates of CIA-accredited programs who want to achieve the ACIA and FCIA designations. It offers a clear path to the ACIA and FCIA through the CIA’s innovative, practical online education and open-book examinations.

Steps for pursuing the ACIA designation via Pathway 1

1. Enrol in an actuarial science program in a CIA-accredited university.
2. Enrol as a Student member of the CIA while in the first year of your actuarial science program and successfully complete the CIA orientation module.
3. Successfully complete ACIA Module 1, after the first year of your actuarial program.
4. Successfully complete ACIA Module 2, during the final year of your actuarial program.
5. Complete your CIA-accredited university degree, including courses mandated by the CIA.
6. Successfully complete the ACIA Capstone Exam after your degree is completed.
7. Successfully complete the CIA Professionalism Workshop.
8. Submit your application for ACIA membership to [email protected].

FCIA designation via Pathway 1

Steps for pursuing the FCIA designation via Pathway 1

1. Be an ACIA member.
2. Successfully complete the requirements of an FCIA specialty track, including two track-specific modules and three track-specific exams.
3. Successfully complete the CIA Advanced Professionalism and Leadership Course.
4. Demonstrate 36 months of experience within the last six years, including 12 months of Canadian experience in the last three years certified by an FCIA and accrued while being an ACIA, as outlined in the FCIA application guidelines.
