Use associate-level qualifications from another actuarial organization

This pathway is for individuals who hold full or partial associate-level qualifications with another actuarial organization and are seeking an ACIA or FCIA designation through CIA education and exams, and who:

  1. do not plan to pursue fellowship with another actuarial organization, or
  2. hold a qualification from an actuarial organization that is a member of the International Actuarial Association that is not recognized by the CIA.

Pathway 2 requires enrolment as a Candidate member of the CIA.

Why pursue the ACIA designation using this path:

  • You want to hold a high-quality, globally recognized associate designation.
  • You want to leverage your recognized associate-level designation or education toward the ACIA.
  • You want it to demonstrate to employers that you have the knowledge, skills and professionalism to be an asset to their organization.
  • You do not plan to use exams from, or pursue fellowship with, another actuarial organization.

Qualified actuaries from other IAA member organizations that are not recognized by the CIA

FCIA designation via Pathway 2

If you are seeking or have earned your ACIA using Pathway 2, you can pursue the FCIA designation with innovative CIA educational activities.

Steps for pursuing the FCIA designation via Pathway 2

Hold the ACIA designation.

Successfully complete the requirements of an FCIA specialty track, including two track-specific modules and three track-specific exams; see the FCIA syllabuses.

Demonstrate 36 months of experience within the past six years, including 12 months of Canadian experience within the past three years accrued as an ACIA and certified by an FCIA, as outlined in the FCIA application guidelines.
